HOLD THE DATE – CONFERENCE UPDATE
NJAFM 16th Annual Conference
October 26, 27 & 28, 2021
Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, Atlantic City
“BACK TO BASICS”
As we rebound from the Covid-19 pandemic that has ravaged the country over the past year, the New Jersey Association for Floodplain Management (NJAFM) is planning to return “live” with our 16th annual conference on October 26, 27 & 28, 2021 at the Hard Rock Casino Hotel in Atlantic City! While we remain cautiously optimistic about our ability to hold an in-person event, we acknowledge continuing uncertainties related to pandemic restrictions and best practices. We continue to monitor progress of pandemic recovery with our partners at the Hard Rock and will make a final decision on the in-person conference in early summer. If we are unable to convene in-person in October, we will hold the 2021 conference as a virtual event.
The NJAFM 16th annual conference theme is “Back to Basics.” This theme recognizes the fact that, despite the unprecedented hardship caused by the pandemic, we still face many floodplain management challenges that simply cannot be ignored. That’s why we are anxious to get “Back to Basics” in the world of floodplain management, and are planning our conference accordingly. The 2021 conference will focus on core floodplain management actions that have proven most effective to our mission: comprehensive flood hazard identification and mapping; flood hazard mitigation; technical assistance and training; natural resource protection and enhancement; strong codes and standards; and, outreach and education.
The NJAFM annual conference is the premier floodplain management conference in the Northeast. With more than 40 speakers and hundreds of participants, this is the conference that regional floodplain managers from the public and private sector plan to attend. In addition, many consulting firms and product vendors associated with floodplain management attend as well.
The annual conference provides an opportunity for professionals in the fields of floodplain management, engineering, hydrology, geology, planning, code enforcement and emergency management to participate in Plenary Sessions and concurrent technical sessions on a broad range of relevant topics. The conference also includes a number of training opportunities and networking events.
While the actual format and program for the 2021 conference is likely to be a bit different than previous conferences, we will strive to maintain the same level and quality of content and networking opportunities. Conference attendance will also provide Continuing Education Credits for Professional Engineers, Professional Planners, Certified Floodplain Managers and Municipal Construction Code Officials.
